A minha mãe ao telefone (…) [My mother on the phone (...)] expresses a scenographic fascination represented in a portrait of a routine act with the adorned presence of my mother.

Alone in the scene, she is sitting in the center of the shot, positioned almost diagonally to the axis of the camera. A medium shot and a portrait framing are adopted. Outdoor location, under diffuse and low-contrast light.

In her right hand, she holds a cassis cornuta, a cassidae conch, a device used to prattle with my aunt. The conversation between the two is not, in its entirety, accessible. We hear them from afar. My aunt's interventions are not heard. The fauna that lives around the scene is notable, although the laughter and rising tones are audible in a spontaneous evolution instigated by the conversation.

This is the materialization of what could be a surreal scenario, which proposes a visually chimerical situation, perhaps the contemplation of a mythical scene, perhaps the glimpse of a deity in the chatter, perhaps my mother on the phone with my aunt.
